Add PDF Watermark — Complete Guide & Instructions
MakeCard PDF Watermark lets you stamp text like “CONFIDENTIAL” or your own logo onto every page of a PDF — without uploading the document anywhere. Choose between a Text Stamp or an Image/Logo, then tune the size, rotation, color, opacity and placement (single centered mark or a repeated tile grid) while watching a live preview of page one. Password-protected files are supported too: enter the password once and the tool handles the rest.
How to Use Add PDF Watermark
- 1 Click “Choose PDF File” or drop a PDF onto the dropzone (up to 60 MB); enter its password if prompted.
- 2 Pick “Text Stamp” or “Image / Logo” in the Watermark Settings panel.
- 3 For text: type the watermark text, set size (16–120 pt), rotation (−90° to 90°) and color. For images: upload a PNG/JPG and set the scale.
- 4 Adjust the Opacity slider and choose Center or Tile (repeat) placement — the live preview updates instantly.
- 5 Press “Apply Watermark & Download” — the stamp is drawn on every page and the file downloads automatically.
Key Features & Capabilities
- Two watermark types: custom text stamps and PNG/JPG image logos (transparent PNGs recommended).
- Full styling controls — size, −90° to +90° rotation, preset/custom colors, 5%–100% opacity.
- Center or Tile placement — tile mode repeats the mark in a 3×3 grid across each page.
- Live rendered preview of page 1 so you can fine-tune before committing.
- Opens and saves password-protected PDFs after a one-time password entry.
- Watermark is applied to every page of the document, not just the preview.

Practical Everyday Use Cases
- Stamping “CONFIDENTIAL” or “DRAFT” across internal reports before circulation.
- Adding a company logo to quotations, invoices and brochures sent to clients.
- Marking certificates and mark sheets as “COPY” to prevent misuse.
- Tiling a light watermark over tender documents and legal drafts.
- Branding a portfolio or proposal PDF before sharing it with a customer.
Pro Tips for Best Results
- Use Tile mode at 15–25% opacity for security watermarks — it is harder to crop out than a single centered stamp.
- Transparent PNGs make the cleanest logo watermarks; JPGs come with a solid white box.
- A −45° diagonal rotation is the classic “CONFIDENTIAL” look and stays readable over dense text.
- Keep opacity below ~30% so the underlying content remains readable on screen and in print.
Common Problems & Solutions
The file is encrypted — enter the document password in the password field first, then apply the watermark again.
The image is a JPG or has no alpha channel. Export your logo as a transparent PNG and re-upload it.
Use the Opacity slider — 20–30% suits most text; bump it higher for faint draft markings, lower for dense pages.
Privacy & Security
100% Client-Side Execution
The PDF, the watermark image and any document password are all processed inside your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
