Website Uptime Checker — Complete Guide & Instructions

MakeCard Website Uptime Checker tells you whether a site is reachable right now — from our server, not just your connection. Enter a URL and it returns an up/down verdict, the HTTP status code and the response time in milliseconds. An auto-check mode re-tests every 15+ seconds and builds a colour-coded history bar with a session uptime percentage, making it handy for developers, site owners and anyone wondering if a site is down for everyone.

How to Use Website Uptime Checker

  1. 1 Type the website address into "Website URL" — e.g. example.com (https:// is added for you).
  2. 2 Click "Check now" — or press Enter — to run a live check.
  3. 3 Read the verdict card: a green ✓ "Website is UP" or red ✕ "appears DOWN", plus the HTTP status and response time in ms.
  4. 4 Optionally enable "Auto-check" and set the interval (minimum 15 seconds) to keep monitoring.
  5. 5 Watch the "Recent checks" bar grow — green segments are successful checks, red are failures — with the session uptime % shown alongside.

Key Features & Capabilities

  • Real server-side check — the request comes from our server, so "down for everyone vs just you" is answered properly.
  • Shows the exact HTTP status code (200, 404, 500, timeout, etc.) behind every verdict.
  • Response time in milliseconds on every check.
  • Auto-check mode re-tests at a configurable interval from 15 seconds up.
  • Session history bar of the last 20 checks with per-check hover details.
  • Live uptime percentage computed across all checks in the session.

Supported Formats & Specifications

Parameter Specification
Check method Server-side HTTP request to the target URL
Verdict UP when HTTP status < 500, DOWN otherwise
Metrics HTTP status code + response time (ms)
Auto-check Configurable interval, minimum 15 seconds
History Last 20 checks + session uptime %

Practical Everyday Use Cases

  • Confirming whether a site is down globally or just blocked on your network.
  • Watching a newly deployed site or server during a release window.
  • Monitoring a client website during DNS migration.
  • Checking if an API endpoint responds before debugging code.
  • Verifying a client's claim that "the site was down" with timed evidence.

Pro Tips for Best Results

  • A site returning 403/404 still counts as UP — the server responded, it just refused the path. Down means unreachable or 5xx.
  • Slow response (high ms) with UP status usually means an overloaded server, not an outage.
  • Use auto-check during incidents — the history bar makes it obvious when service is restored.
  • If your URL has no scheme, https:// is assumed — add http:// explicitly to test non-HTTPS sites.

Common Problems & Solutions

The check runs from our server, which may be blocked by a firewall, CDN region rule or rate limit — verify the status code shown for clues.

Make sure the URL is a real public address — localhost, intranet and private IPs cannot be reached from our server.

Auto-check only runs while the page stays open — closing or reloading the tab clears the timer and history.

Privacy & Security

100% Client-Side Execution

The URL you enter is sent to our server, which makes a single HTTP request to the target site to measure status and response time. Check results live in your browser session; submitted URLs are not logged into any permanent store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using Website Uptime Checker

This tool checks the site from our server — if it reports UP while you cannot reach it, the problem is on your side (ISP, DNS or local firewall). If it reports DOWN, the site is likely unreachable for everyone.

200 means healthy, 3xx are redirects, 404 means the page is missing, and 5xx errors mean the server itself is failing. No status at all means the connection timed out or was refused.

The request reports the final status and URL after redirects — a 301 to a working https version still shows as UP.

Manually as often as you like; auto-check can run every 15 seconds or slower. For continuous 24/7 monitoring with alerts you would need a dedicated uptime service.
